Why did my glucose level go up?

Blood sugar spikes are caused when a simple sugar known as glucose builds up in your bloodstream. For people with diabetes, this happens because of the body's inability to properly use glucose. Insulin, a hormone produced by your pancreas, unlocks cells so that glucose can enter them.
